Pamplona ready to close the campaign
View moreThis time the Navarra Arena takes over as host for the final Round of the season, meaning it will settle the silver and bronze medals in a decider between Jaime Busto (GasGas) and Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Trial Team). Six points currently separate the pair in Busto’s favour and, following his victory last time out, he also has an even greater advantage once the dropped Round regulation is taken into account.
Marcelli may well thus need a win of his own in Pamplona, and it is his teammate Toni Bou who could prove the stumbling block there. Although Bou has already wrapped up his eighteenth world title, he will be doing everything in his power to return to the top after his shock elimination before the Final at X-Trial Tallinn three weeks ago. Meanwhile there is additional interest in the podium battle with contenders Benoit Bincaz (Sherco), who finished third in the Estonian capital, and Toby Martyn (Montesa), who made the rostrum in Geneva and makes his return here.
Meanwhile Adam Raga (Sherco) is chasing his Grand Final of 2024, having been on the podium at least once every previous year since 2002.
Completing the field will be Miquel Gelabert (Vertigo) and Sondre Haga (GasGas), the latter of whom will be looking to show the efficiency and performance of the electric TXE GP.

Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) returned to winning ways with an exceptional performance in the final of the Pamplona X-Trial, where he took his second victory of the season and added another city to his extensive list of victories.
In a practically full Navarra Arena, Bou faced Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Trial Team) and Jaime Busto (GasGas) in the final. The three riders passed the first section with zero points, but in the second Bou continued without penalties while Marcelli was charged with a five and Busto with a two. In the third section, the two rivals of the World Champion accumulated fives and he added another zero which, in the end, sealed the fight for the victory.
From that moment on, the excitement was in the fight for second place, which Marcelli won by a single point. The Galician had been the best in the second round while Busto had won the first round.
Adam Raga (TRRS) was the first to miss out on the final, scoring 7 points more than the third in the first two rounds. After the Spaniard, Toby Martyn (Montesa) closed the Top 5 with a very consistent performance in the two rounds, Aniol Gelabert (Beta) once again demonstrated his consolidation in the world elite and behind him came Sondre Haga (GasGas), Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) and Matteo Grattarola (Vertigo).
Bou (1st): "I am very satisfied with this victory and with the way things went because, after two even and demanding first rounds, in the final I made an important step forward. The first three consecutive zeros and especially the one in the third zone sealed the result. To win again and to do it in a new city are two great news".
Marcelli (2nd): "The second position achieved today is very important because it means returning to the podium and continuing to make progress to be as high as possible in the Championship standings. Also, I was the best in the second round passing all the zones to zero. Consistency in the Top3 is the most important thing".
Busto (3rd): "I'm happy with my driving in the first two rounds but not entirely happy with the final result. I made some mistakes in the final, which really hurt my chances. In any case, to continue on the podium and to do it close to home is very satisfying".
The next round of the X-Trial World Championship will be held in Bordeaux on April 7th.
